New Shutters

Our house is about to get some new flat-panel shutters, which paired with our new windows will nicely update our exterior:

We are not getting this color – but isn’t it pretty?

Which means I’m thinking about what to do with the old shutters.  Thanks to the wonders of Pinterest, I’ve got some ideas:

Bulletin Board:

Would be great for those holiday cards.

Magazine Rack for my kitchen:

A headboard for Noah’s Room, maybe in navy…

Doors for our kids’ hideout in the basement:

I know what you are thinking: Soooooo, Miss Big Shot already-planning-re-use-for-old-shutters, what color exterior paint did you choose to go with your new shutters? I’ve been fielding this question for a few months, a few times from dog-walking passerbys wondering what in the world is going on with my house?

I’m relaxed.  We have four lovely grays on our garage doors (also to be replaced in the next few weeks and my husband has insisted these absolutely NOT be reused in any way indoors or out) and a plan to add some color with our front door.

They are all Benjamin Moore colors. To be fair, San Antonio hadn’t quite dried when I took this picture. It’s a bit darker, but still the lightest of the group. I’m certain all of these grays look nice (these were the best of over a dozen colors we sampled) and that we’ll decide just as the painters arrive in the next few weeks.  Live nearby?  Feel free to drive by and text your vote to….Just kidding, please no texting while driving, but voting is open.

I love my old shutters! I have three waiting to be spray painted down cellar and one is being used above our bed with boxwood and ribbon for an added touch. I love how your husband said not to reuse the garage door-lol. That’s what my husband would say too! Alyssa of Boston Bee (p.s. I’m Brett’s grade 3 teacher;)

I am so glad that I didn’t throw out my old shutters! I am ready to repurpose them into something COOL!—-soooooo many things to do and so little time. I am exhausted just thinking about it. It is a good thing that I like you so much :)

scroll down to the Breezy shutter armoire from Martha. I copied that out of a magazine(or book?) years ago to make it with extra shutters from my parent’s house. Still love the idea and still have the instructions . . .
